Introduction

Here you can find information on the intercomparison exercise held in conjunction with the GammaUser 2014 workshop. You can download all the relevant files in a single zip archive here. Make sure to report your results using the provided reporting form (excel sheet). This will simplify the comparison of different teams' results. Email your results to gammauser2014@gr.is.

Spectra

There are two spectra provided for your analysis in zip archives:

  • The first contains spectrum_I and related data in two formats (ORTEC chn + phd ASCII format):
    • spectrum to be analysed (ICEX1401)
    • calibration spectrum (CalibN4)
    • background spectrum (BGRDN4)
    • setup and calibration data (phd + xlsx)
  • The second archive file contains spectrum II in various formats (ORTEC chn, ORTEC spc, phd ASCII, and IEEE iec).

Filter sample

Please read carefully the information on the physical sample intercomparison. Samples shall be shipped to registered participants using conventional mail. To participate in this part of the exercise, send us an email with your lab's name, contact person, email address, telephone number and mailing address to gammauser2014@gr.is.

Sample material is powdered glass fibre air filter containing remains of recent nuclear power plant accident fallout. Air filter material is Camfil glass fibre CS 5.0. The exposed filter has been grinded to a coarse powder, mixed and divided into individual samples each containing approximately 2 grams of grinded filter material. Activity contents of each sample have been determined individually to ensure homogeneity.

The total artificial activity within each sample is well below 10 Bq. This ensures that the samples can be shipped and received as non-radioactive material. Participating laboratories can keep the sample material following the exercise.

Samples will be shipped with tracking numbers as non-radioactive shipments. Contents shall be labeled as “scientific sample of no commercial value”. Shipping arrangements for participants outside EU countries expecting customs clearance issues are asked to discuss these issues with the organizers in advance to ensure delivery without delay. Tracking numbers will be provided to participants via email following sample dispatch.
