Overview

Welcome to the GammaSpec 2017 workshop page of the GammaWiki web. Here you will find information on the upcoming GammaSpec 2017 workshop on gamma spectrometry. We hope to see you there and in particular we encourage students and younger scientists to attend this educational and entertaining seminar!

Registration form

The registration form for the GammaSpec 2017 workshop can be accessed here.

Seminar agenda

The agenda has been finalised and can be viewed here: Seminar Agenda

Time and place

The GammaSpec 2017 workshop will take place on the 19th-20th of September 2017 at the DTU Risø Campus, Roskilde, Denmark. How to reach Risø: [1]

Seminar cost

The seminar is supported by NKS, Nordic Nuclear Safety Research. No fee will be charged for participation in the seminar. However travel, accommodation and meals not included in the seminar must be covered by the participants themselves.

Exercise spectra and samples

There will be an opportunity for those interested to participate in intercomparison exercises. Participants are kindly expected to fill the required information in the registration form for participation. Information on this year's exercises can be found below.

  • Exercise 1a): measurement of a sediment sample and reporting on the results as instructed. For taking part in this, please fill in and return the registration form. Please use [this form] for reporting your results.
  • Exercise 1b): measurement of a water sample and reporting on the results as instructed. For taking part in this, please fill in and return the registration form. Please use [this form] for reporting your results.
  • Exercise 2a) involves 9 gamma spectra including data for calibration, analysis, correction for self-absorption, background, efficiency transfer. The zip folder contains a text file describing the task to solve.
  • Exercise 2b): analysis of a gamma spectrum to
    • identify all the peaks in the spectrum
    • determine what the sample can be

Note that the spectrum is on a compressed format (.rar ending) which needs to be unpacked before using. You should be able to do this with the default zipping program, but if you encounter any problem you can try using one of the many unpacking tools available online, f.ex WinZip or WinRar.

If you are using Genie2000 and have problem with the spectrum format you can try using the Cambio conversion which can be found here, which can convert the files to .spc format which Genie2000 can open.

Please send the completed registration form to Helle Tofte Holm (htho@dtu.dk) by 1 May if you want to participate in the intercomparison exercises 1a) and 1b) on lab analysis of sediment and water samples.
